Sports In Bangladesh


Sports are a part of Bangladesh culture and people get entertain by it. Many types of games are playing in Bangladesh locally and also internationally. The most popular sports of Bangladesh are Cricket, Football, Kabaddi, and hockey. The national sport of Bangladesh is Kabaddi. There have some traditional sports observe normally in the rural area i.e Lathi Khela, bili Khela, Kabaddi.People get more pleasure to see and play this game. NSC (National Sports Council) look after all Sports federation and Council of Bangladesh.

Games in Bangladesh

There are many different event played in Bangladesh. Cricket, Football, Hockey, Kabaddi, Chess, Swimming, Athletics and Badminton are most popular in this country. Presently there are some other games are played i.e Golf, Volleyball, Basketball, Shooting, Cycling, Boxing, Karete, Table tennis etc.

Cricket is most popular and most playing Sports in Bangladesh. People of Bangladesh like to play and see this game. Bangladesh has a national cricket Team and this team is able to play Cricket World Cup. Bangladesh got permitted to play Test Cricket in 2000. At present our national cricket team play all format crickets. This year Bangladesh will take part ICC world Cup Cricket in Australia. Shakib-Al- Hasan is one of the best players in the world. Bangladesh organizes many cricket leagues (Domestic and International) in or outside the country.



Football
Football is another most playing game for Bangladesh and also much popular. People love to play football and they enjoy seeing it. Bangladesh Football federation (BFF) organized many football tournaments. Bangladesh national Football team FIFA Rank is 176 (October 2014).

Hockey
Hockey is also popular sports in the country. Bangladesh has a national Hockey team. In Asian Games, Bangladesh Participate on Hockey. Bangladesh Hockey Federation organizes many tournaments on this event in the country.

St. Martin's Island, a Coral Island in Bangladesh

St. Martin's Island is one of the most beautiful Islands in Bangladesh. This is a coral Island in Bangladesh. Here you will see live corals and series of coconut trees in the beaches. St. Martin’s is a clean and peaceful Island. About Two Hundred Fifty years ago some Arabian sailors started settlement here and named this island ‘Zajira’. Later St. Martin Island named by British. Locally the island called ‘Narical Gingira’ and also called ‘Daruchini Dip’.

Location of St Martin's Island is in Chittagong Division of Bangladesh. Total areas of the island are 8 km2 (3.1 sq miles), Total Length of the island is 16 km (9.9 mile) and Width is 0.5 km (0.31 mile). Populations of the island are 7,000 (Seven thousand). This island is 3.6 m above the mean sea level and almost flat.

Communication

The total distance of the island is 510 km from Dhaka (Capital of Bangladesh). Form Dhaka, Chittagong and Cox's Bazar you can go to Teknaf by bus. From Teknaf the water transportation (ships and boats) is the only way to reach in the St Martin's Island. By Air you can go from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar then you can go to Teknaf by bus or hire a jeep.

No landlines facilities in here, but you can communicate with cell phones, Grameenphone, Robi, Banglalink, Citycell and Airtel are the operator and well established. Limited internet facility is there.

Inhabitants of the Island

At about seven thousand people lives in St Martin's Island and Fishing is largest profession of here. Every year the fishermen go to sea for catching fish. Maximum foods come here from the mainland and Myanmar. During the rainy season, the people lives here face many problems because the Bay of Bengal condition. In 1991 this was devastated by a cyclone. At present there is a hospital for the people of the island.

Best Season

St. Martin's Island is most popular tourist spot in Bangladesh. Every year tourist is getting increase for its beauty. In between November to February there have best weather and this time is best season for visit the Island.

Bangladesh has much natural historic beauty. The Bay of Bangle is situated in south of the country. So, it has many beautiful sea beach ( Cox’s Bazar sea beach, Kuakata sea beach and Patenga Sea beach). Kukata Sea Beach is a wonderful sea beach which located in the southern portion of Bangladesh. This is also called Daughter of Ocean. This Sea Beach has a vast sandy beach. It has excellent natural beauty; you will be best entertained to see its sandy beach, blue sky, sunrise and sunset looks unbelievable.

  • Distance from Patuakhali District: about 70 kilometers away.
Kuakata Bea Beach name come from the word 'Kua' English word is “Well” in the eighteenth century by the early Rakhaine dug it on the sea shore for collecting safe drinking water. Later, it becomes a tradition of digging and good in the neighborhoods of Rakhaine tribes for drinking water. This ‘digging Kua’ gave the place a name Kuakata .

A Major River of Bangladesh-Padma River and beauty of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a small beautiful country and also known as Land of Rivers. Because there are many rivers flows over Bangladesh and increase its beauty. Some of the rivers are big and some are small, Most of all rivers fall into the Bay of Bengal. Among these The Padma is one of the biggest one in the country and a major river of Bangladesh.


The River originates in the Gangotri Glacier of the Himalaya, and the Ganges flowing through India and Bangladesh towards the Bay of Bengal. The Ganges is known as the Padma is the point where the Bhagirathi divides. The river enters Bangladesh from India near Chapai Nababganj and further downstream the Padma river meets with the river Jamuna near Goalando and finally joins with the river Meghna near Chadpur continuing as Meghna, following towards the the Bay of Bengal. The river follows over Nawabganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, kushtia, Faridpur, Rajbari and Chadpur district in Bangladesh. The length of the river is 120 Kilometers (75 Miles).

Bangladesh is a most densely populated natural beautiful country in south Asia of the world. Official name is The People Republic of Bangladesh. Bangladesh got its independent in 16th dec 1971.Bangladesh has many tourist interests place i.e worlds’ longest sea beach, Mangrove forest and many historical places.

Area: Total area is 147,570 km2.

Capital: Dhaka.

Population: 156,594,962 (Muslim86.6%, Hindu 12.1% and others 1.3%).

Language: The state Language is Bangla, most of the people speak in Bangla, and English is use as second language.

Anthem: Amar sonar Bangla.

Currency unit: Taka (BDT)

Religious: Largest Religious is Islam (86.6 %), Hinduism (12.1%) Christian (0.4%), Buddhist (0.6%), Other (0.3%).

Government: Parliamentary democracy, The Prime minister is the head of the government; the president is the head of the state.

Divisions: Bangladesh divided into seven divisions. The divisions are Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshi, Sylhet, Barisal and Rangpur.
