Bangladesh is a small beautiful country and also known as “Land of Rivers”. Because there are many rivers flows over Bangladesh and increase its beauty. Some of the rivers are big and some are small, Most of all rivers fall into the Bay of Bengal. Among these The Padma is one of the biggest one in the country and a major river of Bangladesh.
The River originates in the Gangotri Glacier of the Himalaya, and the Ganges flowing through India and Bangladesh towards the Bay of Bengal. The Ganges is known as the Padma is the point where the Bhagirathi divides. The river enters Bangladesh from India near Chapai Nababganj and further downstream the Padma river meets with the river Jamuna near Goalando and finally joins with the river Meghna near Chadpur continuing as Meghna, following towards the the Bay of Bengal. The river follows over Nawabganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, kushtia, Faridpur, Rajbari and Chadpur district in Bangladesh. The length of the river is 120 Kilometers (75 Miles).
The Padma River has much importance for our country to its geographical features. Every year during the monsoon season it causes flood but it also contributes our economy. The River serves much water for cultivation.
The River is influencing human lifestyle in many ways. It is the principle source of fish specially Hilsa. Many people earn money by catching fish and fish is one of the main dish of our country. The river is also use for communication and business in our country.
The Padma River has much beauty; if you take a boat trip on this river you will find a great and unique beauty of it. You see many Boats, Launches, Steamers on the river which are passing through smoothly; natural beauty of it is just indescribable. At evening when the sun set, it creates an amusing environment which attract our mind completely. You observe many fishing boats, on the bank many farmers are cultivating on their field and children are playing.
It has also some minor problems; flows of the Padma River were reduced mostly because of Farakka barrage. By this it hampers our cultivation system and also effects on fish, the sundarban etc.
